If you are reading this, you probably have just had your bathtub refinished. You might also have had your tile, sink, flooring, or counter tops refinished . It is important for the longevity of your finished product for it to be properly taken care of and maintained. While there are various great cleaners that have been on store shelves for many years, a number of the products can damage any refinished surface.
Take for example: Comet, Ajax , and Soft Scrub, which all contain bleach, can dull and most times act as an abrasive to your refinished surface. Cleaning with the products can cause minute scratches that can add up over time. The bleach in these products can also react with the coatings applied, intensifying the dulling effect. Over the long term, these products can destroy your once beautiful refinishing project. Cleaning tools such as Scotch Brite pads and steel wool will also contribute to this problem. Scotch Brite pads and steel wool outright sand the surface of the refinished product, degrading it.
The proper way to clean a refinished surface would be to clean with a non bleach and non abrasive product. The products that are recommended are: Fantastic, Formula 409, Windex, vinegar&water, and Scrubbing Bubbles(Non bleach). Most (Green cleaners) on the market are also safe to use, I have not found one yet that has damaged the coatings that Renew A Surface uses.
The – proper way to use the recommended cleaners above is as follows:
1st – Spray the cleaner of your choice from the list above on the refinished product.
2nd – Let the chemicals sit for a least 3-5 minutes to penetrate.
3rd – Use a sponge or a soft rag to wipe the surface clean of all build up and soap scum.
4th – Repeat if necessary.
5th – Rinse thoroughly to remove all chemicals and build up.
If your bathtub or refinishing project becomes dull or a matte finish because it was improbably maintained, it may be able to be fixed. If the surface was a high gloss or semigloss finish, wet sanding and sometimes buffing can fix the issue. If you run into these problems please give us a call and we will see what we can do.
